Victoria’s MasterChef contestants took time out to take on the ultimate pressure test – cooking more than 1,000 meals in our Melbourne kitchen.

Eight contestants from the current season, including FareShare’s own Katrina Dunnett, were split into two teams and asked to create a casserole and side dish from a mystery box of rescued, donated and homegrown ingredients.

“We’ve done nothing like this during MasterChef,” said Elise. “The scale of what we need to cook is beyond my mathematical ability!”

Under the guidance of FareShare chefs Emma and Joseph, the teams cooked a Moroccan beef stew with lemon rice and spiced potatoes, and a chicken cacciatore with pumpkin, chickpeas, and polenta.

The delicious dishes were judged on taste and suitability for the diverse groups of people that FareShare meals nourish. The panel of volunteer judges awarded the honours to Amir, Kishwar, Tom and Katrina pictured above with captain Joseph (centre).

“It’s pretty awesome what FareShare does and to be a part of it,” said Amir.

Good luck to all the contestants. They are all winners in FareShare’s books.
