Over the 2025 festive season, the Melbourne production of A Christmas Carol partnered with FareShare to help provide meals for people struggling to put food on the table.

Across the season, audiences attending performances at Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre were invited to donate to support FareShare’s work, helping raise $182,747 – which will provide 52,213 nutritious meals for people facing hardship.

The partnership reflected the enduring themes at the heart of Charles Dickens’ story of compassion, generosity, and care for those doing it tough. These themes remain relevant today.

Many Australians are still struggling to afford the high cost of food, and access to regular, nutritious meals cannot be taken for granted.

FareShare runs Australia’s largest charity kitchens, where dedicated chefs and volunteers produce around 3 million nutritious meals each year.

These meals are made using produce grown on the FareShare farms, along with quality food donated and rescued from retailers and growers that would otherwise go to waste.

Meals are distributed freely through FareShare’s network of charity partners and shared with people who are struggling to put food on the table, including families, older Australians, and people experiencing financial hardship.

Christmas can be a particularly tough time for many people, and throughout the festive season FareShare’s charity partners continued to support communities experiencing food insecurity.

The generosity shown by audiences throughout the season of A Christmas Carol helped ensure more meals could reach people at a time when support matters most.

FareShare thanks everyone involved in A Christmas Carol for their generosity across the season and for helping provide meals for people who needed them this Christmas.
