Bringing the joy of Christmas to the bush
Christmas will be a little brighter for veterans sleeping rough and children with disabilities thanks to a very special FareShare delivery to South Gippsland last week.
A range of cooked festive meals, including sticky date puddings, are now being shared by Ros Bryan OAM JP who works tirelessly at the Fish Creek RSL to support local veterans, many of whom are experiencing trauma and sleep under bridges or in other isolated locations.
The FareShare delivery also included a collection of toys and other goodies donated by our volunteers. They will ensure a memorable Christmas party for young wheelchair users who Ros hosts every year.
“I know exactly who that dinosaur is meant for,” said Ros eyeing the donated presents. “He will love it! He won’t be able to play with it too well, but I already know how much joy it will bring him seeing it on the shelf.”
Ros said FareShare’s sticky date pudding was the sure-fire winner with the children. While some will require the Christmas meals to be vitamised, she believes they will notice the difference from a regular soup.
She paid tribute to FareShare’s volunteers for helping to prepare the meals and for donating the gifts. “I don’t know how to thank you for everything you do,” she said.
FareShare makes monthly deliveries to the Fish Creek RSL to nourish local veterans. Ros provides those who are experiencing homelessness with iceboxes for their meals as well as warm blankets, swags, sleeping bags and other necessities. For those who live alone in their own places, Ros keeps their freezers stocked with FareShare’s cooked, nutritious meals.
