Ways to fundraise for FareShare

There are plenty of great ways you can fundraise for FareShare! Here are a few of them…

Fundraise at work

Make a difference by fundraising at your workplace, such as hosting a lunch, an office bake off, a themed day, a sales campaign, or company fundraiser.

Fundraise through your community or club

From a local sports club to a leading Rotary club, a community group or club is a great way to raise funds for FareShare.

Go your own way

These are just a few ideas. If you have your own fundraising idea, we'd love to hear it. Read more.

Challenge yourself

Join an existing event like a marathon and get active as you raise vital funds for FareShare.

Celebrate an occasion

Do you have an upcoming birthday, wedding or other special occasion? Consider gifting to FareShare in lieu of a gift.

Fundraise at home

Help FareShare from the comfort of your own home by hosting a dinner, a garage sale, a crowdfunding campaign and more.

Fundraise at school

It's never too early to help raise funds (or food) for FareShare at your school by organising a fundraiser event or by getting one of our speakers to attend.

Have any questions? Keep reading for more info on these fundraising ideas, or email our fundraising coordinator, Tilly.

Ways to fundraise - further inspiration

You can help us make a difference by raising funds for FareShare at your workplace. A few examples include:

Host a lunch and encourage your work mates to support it with a donation.

Show off your baking skills with an office bake off, in which you (and preferably some of your colleagues) bake delicious treats that you sell for a gold coin donation.

Have a day where you wear FareShare red (or casual clothing) to work in exchange for small donations. Theme it differently every month for even more workplace fun.

Run a sales campaign where you donate a small portion of sales or proceeds to FareShare.

Many organisations will match or provide some funds if you’re participating in an event or conducting a charity fundraiser, like the examples listed above.

If you work in a big office complex, consider getting other organisations involved to help raise money so we can keep cooking free, nutritious meals for people doing it tough.

Help FareShare from the comfort of your own home.

Consider hosting a meal at home and encourage your guests to give the gift of free, nutritious meals to those less fortunate by making a donation to FareShare. Alternatively, opt for an at-home movie night, karaoke session, yoga class, a crafts or games night, or whatever else you like to do.

Is it time for a de-clutter? Why not sell a few of your unwanted items online or as a garage sale and donate the proceeds to FareShare?

If you are located in Queensland or Western Australia, you can help the environment and the local community by simply choosing to recycle through Containers for Change. Recycle your unwanted containers while raising money to help FareShare cook nutritious meals for Australians facing hardship.

It’s never too early to help raise funds (or food) for FareShare at your school by organising a fundraiser event like a wacky hair day, playground race, leftover lunch day or similar.

We can even get a FareShare speaker to visit your school and discuss food waste and food security and inspire your fellow students. Email schools@fareshare.net.au for more info on this.

Or run a food drive by getting your school to donate essential food items to us.

From charity golf tournaments to trivia nights, there are many ways to support people doing it tough through your local club or community group.

By banding together and hosting an event such as a BBQ, gold coin donation, bake sale or even a dedicating a competition round to FareShare at your local sports club, you and your team can make a real difference while having a lot of fun.

Walk, run, cycle or swim and get active for a good cause.

Are you planning a hiking trip, have an upcoming marathon or are even just looking to be more active? Now is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself while raising funds for people who are struggling to put food on their tables.

Celebrating milestones while giving the gift of healthy, complete meals is a fantastic way to support Australians who are facing hardship. Set up your own fundraising page in celebration of a loved one or ask your friends and family to donate for your birthday or special occasion in lieu of gifts.

Make a real difference while celebrating a birthday, wedding, anniversary or other landmark occasion. Simply create a personalised fundraising page, share the link with your friends and family and ask them to donate instead of giving gifts on your special day. By providing nutritious, cooked meals to people who need them, these funds will make a lasting impact in our local communities.

You can also find us as a charity on Facebook and set up a birthday fundraiser there.

Nourish people with hope and dignity by leaving a gift in your will to FareShare.

Making a bequest is one of the most meaningful ways you can help people less fortunate.

Leaving a legacy allows us to provide dignity and wellbeing to vulnerable Australians in the form of free, nutritious meals.

Become a friend of a FareFuture and your legacy will be compassion, leadership, and hope,

Have your own fundraising idea? Fantastic! Whether it is holding your own charity gig like Hans did (see image above), dying your hair a funky colour (did someone say FareShare red?) or participating in a food waste challenge, we are here to help you every step of the way.

Please get in touch with us at matilda.hasell@fareshare.net.au if you would like to discuss any of your fundraising ideas.

Meet some of our fundraising legends

Isaac and Sebastian

Meet two of our youngest fundraisers, Isaac and Sebastian. This superstar duo helped out in their family garden and saved up their hard-earned pocket money to help FareShare cook more meals for people who need them the most.

Once they had raised their funds, Isaac and Sebastian proudly visited FareShare with their dad Christian, a generous FareShare supporter himself. They are seen here handing over their funds to our head chef Crickette (pictured, right).

Isaac and Sebastian prove that age and size are no boundaries when it comes to looking out for everyone in our community, regardless of their circumstances.

Isla's Sunshine Coast Marathon fundraiser

Isla raised her fundraising target for FareShare by competing in the Sunshine Coast Marathon.

A Grade 12 student and keen athlete, Isla trained around her neighbourhood in between studying.

Before the marathon, Isla also visited FareShare in Brisbane. She was amazed by the work of our volunteers and the amount of food rescued and cooked on any given day.

Kate's annual 'Ribmas' picnic

Having volunteered with FareShare for 8 months, Kate decided to leverage Ribmas, an annual picnic with friends, to raise vital funds for FareShare.

For over a decade, Kate and her friends have been getting together in a local park. They bring ribs and rib-inspired dishes for an afternoon of sharing friendly competition and delicious food.

Ribmas is a brilliant day for friends and loved ones, and is also hugely valuable in supporting our community.

I know that our donation to FareShare will help continue their amazing work in providing meals to those who need support,” says Kate.

Her advice to other people keen to fundraise: “Don an apron and get those creative juices flowing!”

Toby's cookie jars

Grade 6 student Toby made cookie jars to raise funds for FareShare!

His school held an expo where he showcased these easy-to-cook, DIY cookie jars, which came in two different flavours…a classic choc chip and an M&M variety.

The cookie jars ended up selling better than any hot cakes.

Toby collected the money in a shoe box. When his fundraiser was over, he carefully counted the money and made a donation to FareShare, so that we could “continue to help feed the homeless.”

Thank you, Toby, for this wonderful idea!

Why do we need your help?

FareShare needs to raise $6.5 million every year to cook meals for vulnerable Australians. Without it, we could not keep our ovens cooking, our freezers and cool rooms cold, our food rescue vans on the road, or pay our wonderful chefs and staff.

Where will your donation go?

FareShare cooks thousands of free, nutritious meals for people in need every day. To do so, we rely on the generosity of Australians. We do not receive government funding towards our operations.

Thus, every donation means more meals. Your tax deductible donation will help us to collect surplus food from supermarkets, farmers and other food businesses. It will also pay for the cost of running our kitchens, and then distributing meals to front line charities.

In addition to the wonderful support of volunteers, we are fortunate to receive pro bono help from many businesses to cover basic costs such as maintenance of kitchen equipment, packaging and cleaning materials.

This lowers our overheads and enables us to spend your donations on what we do best – cooking meals for people in crisis.
