Meet Trevor who was once grateful for hot FareShare meals from food vans and the Salvos’ Hamodava Café on Bourke St.
Today he helps serve them as a volunteer. Your support to our Christmas Appeal can help us support people like Trevor with free, nutritious food when they need it most.
Things went wrong for Trevor when he was made redundant after 12 years in a job. Unable to find another job, he blew his redundancy money on alcohol and gambling. When he had nothing left to pay the rent, he found himself on the street.
“I didn’t know where my life would end up. I was too ashamed to tell my parents.”
For four and a half months he slept rough around the MCG. Now, thanks to support and guidance from Salvation Army 614, good food and his own courage he has turned his life around.
“They gave me something to eat. I ended up making a lot of friends.
“When you’re on the street – to have a place like this to give people hot meals, it puts a glow on people’s faces.”
Today Trevor volunteers two days a week at the Salvos and has a part-time job there as a cleaner and a roof over his head at the Magpie Nest housing project.
Sadly, there are growing numbers of people with a long road ahead of them. They all need good food, shelter, support and human company like Trevor.
Your tax deductible donation to our Christmas Appeal can help FareShare make a big contribution by cooking them free nutritious meals.
